The castle of the Counts of Foix
The castle is visible from everywhere in town: three towers on a rocky spur, where the Ariège meets the Arget. It can be visited, and the view from the towers reaches the first Pyrenean ridges.
Gateway to the Cathar castles
Foix is the natural starting point for the Cathar castles perched inland. These sites sit on mountainsides, along narrow roads, with no rail service: a driver who knows the roads saves time.
