The Bassin des Ladres
In the middle of the village, the Bassin des Ladres steams all day: the water comes out hot, and passers-by soak their feet in it, in the open street, for free. It is the scene that sums Ax up.
The baths draw on the same sulphurous springs. The village is compact: from the drop-off point, everything is done on foot.
Skiing above the village
The Ax 3 Domaines ski area overlooks the valley, and the gondola leaves from the village itself. In winter the mountain road can call for proper equipment: this is exactly the run where a driver who knows it changes everything.
On the road to Andorra
Ax-les-Thermes is the last French town before the Puymorens pass and Andorra. Our fare table covers much of the Andorran parishes — Andorra la Vella, Soldeu, El Pas de la Casa, Encamp: a stop in Ax adds no detour.
